Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology holds two disciplines together on purpose. Students work book by book through Scripture and doctrine by doctrine through the Christian faith, then learn to bring the two into one coherent voice for teaching, writing, and leadership. It is the degree for the person whose ministry depends on being trusted with a text: the adult class teacher, the youth leader, the lay preacher, the curriculum writer, the church staff member who is asked hard questions on a Wednesday night. The curriculum is built around the whole canon. Students survey Torah and the historical books, the prophets and writings, the Gospels and Acts, and the letters and Revelation, learning the setting and message of each. Doctrinal courses follow the same material a second time, now asking what the church has confessed about God, Christ, salvation, and the church on the basis of those texts. A teaching practicum runs through the final year, because interpretation is a skill that only matures in front of real learners. Graduates leave able to prepare a lesson from any part of Scripture, to explain Christian doctrine without jargon, and to write for ordinary readers who want to know what the Bible says.
